Long stage that need to leave very early in the morning Gorizia. Opportunities to train to CORMONS. Part of the route takes place on the road that runs through the valley before returning to forest trails, identified CAI 748, which lead to CASTELMONTE through beautiful forests deserted by hikers. Located in an alley in front of the Church, Casa del Pellegrino is open every day of the week and offers indoor and cottage. Home very nice.

We got the train to Cividale, to miss out long stretches near busy roads as recommended in the guide. We also stocked up with food at Cividale, which could easily be used as another base, as there are numerous bus routes from here. If you want to avoid staying at a different place every night, you would do well to stay here and take buses to the start and finish of the stages. Get a book of tickets from tabac shops, and punch the ticket in the bus when you get on. We wanted to stay at the monastery at Castelmonte, but it was closed for a festival. Instead we stayed at a farm on the top of a hill looking west. The view was fantastic and the sunset was magnificent: Colle Ortenzi at Tercimonte, about 1.5 hours before Castelmonte.

according to Google Earth the Route would be 48 km instead of 15 km.

Much longer than 15kms. It took us 7hrs from Cormons where there is lots of accommodation. Castelmonte closed on Tuesdays.
