Buchboden
The hamlet of BUCHBODEN close to the valley mouth, which belongs to the community of Sonntag (910m above sea level), took on the character of a small village after the church was built in 1687 and became a separate parish in 1710 - and also a place of pilgrimage. At the time, Bad Rotenbrunnen situated in the outer Gadental valley was already a highly frequented spa. Today, the little village of Buchboden spared from any through traffic is treasured as an oasis of nature and tranquility. The inner Große Walsertal valley caters for a decidedly nature-friendly type of tourism. It boasts many hiking possibilities with easy circular hikes and walks that take you into the Bregenzerwald region and the Lechtal and Klostertal valleys. In addition to the Stein cable car, hike buses also offer easier access to the high-altitude destinations. The Rote Wand (2,704m) and the Hochkünzelspitze (2,397m) are two of the most popular destinations among the demanding high-altitude tours.
