RESORT: Municipalities of Ormea, Garessio and Pamparato; Tanaro and Casotto Valleys; Province of Cuneo

Buckwheat polenta, chestnuts, Caprauna turnips, mountain cheeses, maize biscuits are just some of the many products from the border valleys between Liguria and Piedmont. In two days of easy hikes we’ll taste typical local dishes by discovering flora, villages, towers and castles embedded in beautiful natural sceneries at the same time.
1st day: meeting at Ormea (727m), in della Libertà square, at 9.30 a.m. Ascent to Molino del Fossato and to the typical Alpine hamlet of Chioraira (1097m), where we’ll make visit to a small goat cheese producer’s. Then we’ll reach Chionea (1102m) and Colla, bearing the same name (1223m) through wonderful edible chestnut woods. After a packed lunch, one last stretch on a country road will take us back to Ormea (about 4 p.m.), lovely village of clear medieval origins. Transfer to Garessio by car for typical dinner and overnight stay. Total uphill height difference circa 550m, difficulty for hikers (E). 2nd day: meeting at Valcasotto (966m) at 10 a.m. Short walk towards the old Savoy hunting lodge, the Castle of Casotto. Guided tour. Ascent to Cascina La Grangia and packed lunch. Visit to Le Surie hamlet (1215m) and return to Valcasotto (about 2 p.m.). Visit to the watermill and to Piedmontese “dop” cheese seasoning. Tasting (about 3.30 p.m.). Transfer to Serra di Pamparato by car and visit to the Ethnographic Museum. The outing will end around 4.30 p.m. Total uphill height difference circa 260m, difficulty for tourists (T).

€ 110,00 The fee includes: half board in tourist-category structure 2/3 stars, packed lunches, tastings, nature guide with you, insurance. The fee doesn’t include: possibility to prolong your stay. Pamparato, Garessio and Ormea narrate of a rich and important past and offer various possibilities for art, nature and wine and food visits.
It’s possible to organize the outing by coach for those groups who don’t have their own means of transport.
